Meet Dr. Yolanda Lenzy
Dr. Yolanda Lenzy is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical and cosmetic skin and hair care for adults and children. Her research and clinical practice focuses on hair and scalp disorders and skin disease in skin of color. Dr. Lenzy also practices a full range of medical dermatology, including a multidisciplinary approach to acne, eczema, skin cancer diagnosis and surgical treatment for benign and malignant growths.
Background
Dr. Lenzy is a native of the Washington, DC area. She received her medical degree from the University of Maryland, her Master’s in Public Health from the Harvard University and her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Health Promotion from American University, where she graduated with top honors. She completed her Dermatology Residency in the Boston University/Tufts University Combined Dermatology Residency Program.
Prior to college, Dr. Lenzy trained in cosmetology and has been a licensed cosmetologist for over 25 years. Her background as a hair stylist fueled her passion to focus her career on optimizing care for the hair and scalp from a medical perspective. Dr. Lenzy has participated in numerous studies on photo-aging, psoriasis and various causes of hair loss, including partnering with local hair salons to educate stylists on ways to help prevent styling induced hair loss.
Education
Dr. Lenzy is a Clinical Associate to UConn Health Department of Dermatology. She has authored numerous publications for academic journals, book chapters and nationally distributed patient education materials. She has presented her research to the World Congress of Dermatology in Cairns, Australia and Edinburgh, Scotland, the National Medical Association, the Skin of Color Society and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr Lenzy is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Hair Research Society, the Skin of Color Society, the National Medical Association’s Dermatology Section and is on the Board of Directors of the Scarring Alopecia Foundation. Dr. Lenzy is sensitive to issues of multi-ethnic skin and is committed to providing her patients personalized care.
